If you follow social media at all, I suspect you may wonder if people ever draw limits to what they are willing to put on media to attract attention. The bar for decorum these days is at an all-time low. But not so for the believer. The Word of God provides from great words of counsel for those that seek to honor God and advance His kingdom with media platforms.
“Am I now trying to win the favor and approval of men, or of God? Or am I seeking to please someone? If I were still trying to be popular with men, I would not be a bond-servant of Christ.” Galatians 1:10 The Amplified Bible
“But just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel [that tells the good news of salvation through faith in Christ], so we speak, not as [if we were trying] to please people [to gain power and popularity], but to please God who examines our hearts [expecting our best].” 1 Thessalonians 2:4 The Amplified Bible
“ Do not let unwholesome [foul, profane, worthless, vulgar] words ever come out of your mouth, but only such speech as is good for building up others, according to the need and the occasion, so that it will be a blessing to those who hear [you speak]. 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God [but seek to please Him], by whom you were sealed and marked [branded as God’s own] for the day of redemption [the final deliverance from the consequences of sin].” Ephesians 4:29-30 The Amplified Bible
These words that were penned 2,000 years ago are the standard for the Believers. The bar is never low for us and it never will be. You will never find in the Bible Jesus saying, watch over your life and conduct, but in 2026 you can lighten up.
“Dear friends, I had been eagerly planning to write to you about the salvation we all share. But now I find that I must write about something else, urging you to defend the faith that God has entrusted once for all time to his holy people. 4 I say this because some ungodly people have wormed their way into your churches, saying that God’s marvelous grace allows us to live immoral lives. The condemnation of such people was recorded long ago, for they have denied our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.” Jude 3-4 New Living Translation
Jesus help us to persevere and stay on course, not veering off to win the approval of people. Remind us Lord, that we work for an audience of one…and that is you Jesus. Thank you for your Holy Spirit that convicts and nudges our hearts when we are crossing over the line of propriety and endangering your good name that we claim as our own. Thank you for your forgiveness when we fall short of your standard. We are your servants. In Jesus Name. Amen.
