Counselors

Looking for the opportunity to be used by God this summer, but don’t have the whole summer to serve? Join our team for one or more of the most meaningful weeks of your life.

A camp counselor must be called to the ministry of Mt. Gilead and have a vital and growing relationship with Jesus Christ.  Godly character, patience and joy are essential for this position. A counselor is responsible for overseeing the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the children in their care for the duration of a camper’s day stay, which includes 24-hour care. Due to California State Camping regulations, camp counselors must be 18 years of age or have graduated high school by the start of camp.

Responsibilities

Build relationships with campers for the purpose of encouragement, evangelism and discipleship

  • Leading cabin devotions and facilitating discussion

  • Ensuring campers are cared for physically, and that they are equipped to have an enjoyable time at camp.

Physical Requirements

Counseling involves helping with and participating in field games, hikes, swimming and other various physical activities. It is therefore essential that candidates are able to perform activities that involve lifting, climbing, standing, and running.

Leadership

Behind every great camp week is a Leadership Team keeping it moving, a Worship Coordinator drawing hearts toward God, and a Timothy Team Leader investing in the next generation. If you’re a servant leader who thrives in fast-paced, people-centered ministry, one of these roles may be calling your name.

A Worship Coordinator must be called to the ministry of Mt. Gilead and have a vital and growing relationship with Jesus Christ. Godly character, creativity, and a heart for worship are essential for this position. The Worship Coordinator is responsible for fostering a Christ-centered worship culture at camp, leading and supporting worship teams, and coordinating all musical and audio-visual elements of chapel services throughout the summer.

Responsibilities:

  • Create chapel worship sets and oversee all worship sessions throughout camp
  • Schedule worship teams and rehearsals
  • Recruit, audition, and develop worship leaders from summer staff and outside volunteers
  • Develop ongoing relationships and accountability with worship leaders through one-on-ones
  • Compile and organize sheet music, worship song banks, and lyric slides
  • Prepare and manage different playlists for pre-service and activity times
  • Oversee and take inventory of sound, music, and AV equipment; help maintain organized storage spaces
  • Understand and manage basic soundboard functions, resetting as needed
  • Meet regularly with Program Manager(s) and Leadership Team to align on worship goals, updates, and needs

Physical Requirements:

This position involves leading worship, setting up and moving music/sound equipment, and participating in camp activities. Candidates should be able to perform physical tasks such as lifting, standing, and moving between venues.

The Timothy Team Leader is responsible for leading and discipling the Timothy Team (high school students serving and learning in ministry), guiding them in their spiritual growth, biblical knowledge and leadership development.

  • Create and implement rules, expectations, and goals that align with Mt. Gilead’s mission
  • Lead and teach Bible studies, devotionals, and training seminars
  • Plan fun and meaningful group activities to encourage team unity and joy
  • Assist with the cleaning of camp before and after each week of summer camp
  • Facilitation of Mt. Gilead Recreation and aquatics areas.

This position involves leading games and participating in outdoor activities. Candidates should be able to perform tasks involving lifting, standing, and walking across campgrounds.

A program leader is responsible for facilitating the summer camp schedule, providing camp counselor support, frequent problem-solving and anticipating needs before they arise. Our Leadership Team keeps camp running smoothly.

  • Facilitating the summer camp schedule and all activities, making and suggesting changes under the direction of the Program Manager.
  • Emcee and energize activities; delivering directions, explaining rules, and building excitement for upcoming events.
  • Building relationships with camp counselors in order to better serve them. Stepping in for counselors as needed.
  • Participate in all planned camper and staff activities with enthusiasm and excitement.
  • Facilitation of Mt. Gilead Recreation and aquatics areas.
  • Assist with the cleaning of camp before and after each week of summer camp

Support Staff

A Maintenance Team Member must be called to the ministry of Mt. Gilead and have a strong and growing relationship with Jesus Christ. This role supports the daily operation of camp by helping maintain safe, clean, and functional buildings, grounds, and equipment. A joyful attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to serve through hands-on work are essential. Maintenance Team Members help create a welcoming environment for campers, guest groups, and staff by addressing repairs, upkeep, and facility needs with excellence and integrity.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with general maintenance and repairs across camp facilities and grounds as assigned
  • Perform routine inspections and report safety concerns or repair needs to leadership
  • Assist with landscaping tasks such as mowing, trimming, raking, and debris removal
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and workspaces in an organized and safe manner
  • Follow and uphold all Mt. Gilead safety and security procedures
  • Model Christlike character through attitude, work ethic, and interactions with campers, guests, and staff

Physical Requirements:

This position involves frequent physical activity, including walking, standing, bending, lifting, and carrying equipment. Candidates should be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, work outdoors in varying weather conditions, and safely navigate uneven or rugged terrain. This role may require use of ladders, basic tools, and equipment while completing maintenance and grounds tasks.

Maintenance Team Members are expected to live onsite for the duration of their scheduled work weeks unless an alternative arrangement has been approved by the hiring manager. Staff in this role may partake in all meals provided by Mt. Gilead’s kitchen services for the duration of the summer season or their employment period, whichever is shorter.

A Kitchen Team Member must be called to the ministry of Mt. Gilead and have a strong and growing relationship with Jesus Christ. This role is essential to creating a warm, hospitable, and Christ-centered environment by preparing and serving meals for campers, guests, and staff. A joyful attitude, a heart for service, and the ability to work well with others in a fast-paced, physically demanding setting are important for success in this position. Kitchen Team Members help ensure that the dining experience supports the mission of Mt. Gilead by offering excellent food service and genuine care.

  • Set up and clean the dining hall  before and after each meal
  • Wash dishes and operate dishwashing equipment safely and efficiently
  • Help maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized kitchen environment
  • Assist with receiving food deliveries and stocking pantry or cooler items
  • Follow all health and safety guidelines for food handling and kitchen operations
  • Support other kitchen tasks or special food service needs as assigned

 

Physical Requirements:

This position requires the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, stand on your feet for extended periods (up to 8-hour shifts), bend, reach, and move quickly in a warm, fast-paced kitchen environment. Candidates must be able to safely handle kitchen equipment and navigate the kitchen and dining areas throughout the day.

Special Operations Team
(Recreation and Guest Services)

A Special Operations Team Member must be called to the ministry of Mt. Gilead and have a vital, growing relationship with Jesus Christ. Godly character, patience, and joy are essential for this position.  Special Ops staff play a crucial part in caring for our guests and supporting the overall ministry of Mt. Gilead through service, hospitality, and hands-on support for retreat groups and summer camp programs. Are 18 years old or a high school graduate (preferred)

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a hosts for guest groups, providing excellent hospitality and support
  • Engage with campers and guests by facilitating our most fun recreation activities (zipline, giant swing, pool, archery, and more) with excellence and safety
  • Model Christlike attitude and conduct for campers and guests
  • Follow and uphold all Mt. Gilead safety and security procedures
  • Cleaning and preparing facilities and grounds before the arrival of guest groups; includes cleaning, landscaping, setup and teardown.

Physical Requirements:

This is an active role requiring frequent movement, including walking, running, lifting (up to 50 lbs), and carrying equipment. Friendly professionalism, clear communication, and a servant-hearted attitude are essential for this position. As the first point of contact for callers, guests, and vendors, the Office Assistant plays a vital role in creating a welcoming, organized, and efficient environment. While managing phone calls and greeting guests are top priorities, this role also supports camper family communication, data entry, and general administrative tasks.

  • Create packets, camper cards, and various documentation for summer programming

Physical Requirements:

This role is primarily office-based but may include light physical tasks such as lifting boxes up to 25 lbs, walking to various camp buildings, reaching, bending, organizing storage spaces, and standing for periods of time while assisting guests or working in the gift store. Candidates should be comfortable moving around camp facilities and occasionally helping with simple setup or office-related tasks as needed.

  • Edit photos and videos for use in weekly highlight videos, social media, and camp promotional materials
  • Upload and organize media on assigned platforms such as the website, blog, Instagram, and Facebook
  • Order and pick up prints of cabin group photos and camp group photos
  • Operate the sound booth during chapel (worship, speakers, videos, etc.) as needed
  • Collaborate with program staff to ensure full coverage of camp activities and key moments
  • Maintain organized media storage, ensuring proper labeling and archiving

Physical Requirements:

This position involves walking throughout the campgrounds, carrying camera gear for extended periods, and participating in outdoor activities in varying weather conditions. Candidates should be able to lift equipment, stand for long periods, and move easily across camp facilities.

Health Care

Great camp care is more than bandages — it’s a ministry. Our Camp Nurse and First Aid Assistant create the safe, attentive environment that lets everything else at Mt. Gilead thrive.

A Camp Nurse must be called to the ministry of Mt. Gilead and have a strong and growing relationship with Jesus Christ. This role is responsible for supporting the health and safety of campers and staff by providing basic first aid, overseeing medication administration, and assisting with health screenings under the supervision of the Health Care Supervisor. The Camp Nurse plays a vital part in ensuring a safe, caring, and attentive environment throughout each camp session.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide basic health screenings for campers and staff
  • Collect, manage, and distribute medication for campers and summer staff members
  • Administer basic first aid as needed throughout the day
  • Assist in supervising campers as necessary
  • Model Christlike character through your actions, attitude, and conduct
  • Follow and uphold all Mt. Gilead safety and security procedures
  • Serve as the First Aid Supervisor when the Health Care Supervisor is off-site
  • Maintain accurate records of medical care, treatments, and medication distribution
  • Communicate promptly with the Health Care Supervisor regarding any concerns, incidents, or special medical needs

Physical Requirements:

This role requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, walk and stand for extended periods, and navigate uneven or rugged terrain. Candidates should be capable of responding quickly in emergency situations and performing basic physical tasks associated with medical care in an outdoor camp setting.

This role provides basic first aid to campers and staff during our summer camp programs and supports leadership in implementing safe, effective programming. Working under the supervision of the Health Care Supervisor, the First Aid Assistant helps ensure a caring and attentive environment for all participants throughout the camp week.

Physical Requirements:

This role requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, walk and stand for extended periods, and navigate uneven or rugged terrain. Candidates should be able to respond quickly in emergency situations and perform basic physical tasks associated with medical care in an outdoor camp environment.

Additional Notes:

Room and board is provided for this position. First Aid Assistants are expected to live onsite for the duration of their scheduled summer weeks. Staff in this role may partake in all meals provided by Mt. Gilead’s kitchen services for the duration of the summer season or their employment period, whichever is shorter.

Mt. Gilead Bible Camp is looking for enthusiastic staff members that love the Lord, enjoy food service and working with people and are able to handle physically challenging work.

Classification: Part-time, Bi-Weekly

Qualifications:

  • Previous food service experience
  • Superior interpersonal skills and a desire to serve Christ
  • Available to work on Saturday and Sunday, with mid-week shifts based on ministry needs

Responsibilities:

  • Leading a team to serve pre-determined menus to our guests
  • Food prep
  • Serving meals
  • Dining room set up and clean up
  • Providing excellent customer service to guests
  • General kitchen cleaning, dishwashing, and assisting the Food Service Manager

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to lift and carry 50 pounds
  • Able to work on their feet for 8 hour shifts

Candidate must be at least 25 years old, have valid driver’s license and have a heart for ministering in a role that is vital to the care of our guests.  Good organizational skills are a must.  Also, must be mature enough to supervise coworkers during camp turnover (cleaning the entire camp between guest groups).  Duties include: cleaning accommodations, stocking all cleaning supplies, doing laundry, and overseeing lost and found items.  This position is a minimum of 32 hours per week, often includes weekends.  More hours available by helping with light maintenance and kitchen work.  Camp housing provided.

Classification: Part-time, Bi-Weekly

  • Management/leadership experience preferred

Yes, it is possible to serve as a guest counselor for one week. We’re actively looking for 2026 summer counselors!

When is summer camp, and how long is the commitment?

Summer Camp officially begins June 7-August 3.  Staff training is June 7-19.
